On 19th December 2022, the Higher Education Minister Dr. R Bindhu inaugurated the IDD Startup Incubator Office at Angels’ Village, Kanjirapally. The IDD Startup Incubator is a joint venture of We Care Center, Business Innovation and Incubation Center(BIIC) and Inter University Center for Studies of Sciences and Music(IUCSSM) of MG University. This Incubator will provide budding entrepreneurs with the necessary resources to develop, expand and launch new and innovative business ideas in the IDD Sector. The incubator will provide a platform to the budding entrepreneurs to explore their entrepreneurial spirit and develop a wide range of innovative and sustainable business ideas.

Speaking at the inauguration, Dr. Bindhu said, “The IDD Startup Incubator Office is a great opportunity for the youth of Kanjirapally to bring their innovative and creative ideas to life. The resources offered by this office will enable them to launch their businesses and become successful entrepreneurs. I am confident that this office will open the doors of success for many young entrepreneurs in the community.” The IDD Startup Incubator will offer mentorship, funding, and other resources to aspiring entrepreneurs. It will also host workshops, seminars and other events to encourage youth to take up entrepreneurship. The Office is expected to play a major role in fostering the growth of entrepreneurship in the society.

 

IIT Madras Team Visit

 

On the 11th of January 2023, a team from IIT Madras visited the Angels’ Village, Kanjirapally. The team was received warmly by the staff and members at the center. The center provides a safe and friendly environment for the differently abled to learn, work and socialize. The team was taken on a tour of the center, where they were able to observe the various activities and services provided to the differently abled. These included physical and occupational therapy, speech therapy, vocational training, and educational sessions. The team was also able to witness a classroom session on basic computing skills. The team then interacted with the staff and members at the center. They discussed the various challenges faced by the differently abled and the initiatives taken by the center to address them. One of the primary issues discussed was the lack of access to proper medical care and treatment for the differently abled. The team was able to gain a better understanding of the plight of the differently abled and the everyday challenges they face. The team was immensely touched by the warmth and hospitality of the staff and members of the center. They also had a chance to interact with some of the members, who shared their stories and experiences with them.

 

Discussion with Bangalore based ATF Labs

 

The Bangalore based ATF Labs, at the Angels’ Village, Kanjirapally had an eventful discussion on the ways to improve the lives of differently abled people. The discussion was held on the 26th of December, 2022 at the Angels’ Village. The discussion was attended by the officials from the ATF Labs, members of the rehabilitation center, and officials from BIIC MG UNiversity. The discussion started with the introduction of the various members present at the discussion. The officials from the Bangalore based assistive technology lab provided an overview of their work and the various assistive technologies they had developed. They discussed the various challenges faced by differently abled people and the importance of assistive technologies in helping them overcome these challenges. The members of the rehabilitation center shared their experiences of working with differently abled people and their struggles with the current technologies available. They also discussed the various ways in which assistive technologies can be used to improve the quality of life for differently abled people. The discussion also focused on the various opportunities available for differently abled people in the field of assistive technology. The participants discussed the various initiatives taken by the ATF Lab.

 

Incubating New Startups

 

The IDD Startup Incubator is a new initiative aimed at helping individuals, entrepreneurs and startups to grow and develop.
